The Gate Inn, is a historical Kent country pub, honouring timeless traditions, serving fine cask ales straight from the barrel & hearty home-cooked food in a traditional country pub setting filled with years of character. The gate inn is receiving applications to fill a chef position managing the traditional lunchtime and evening menu and KP to assist the chefs

The pub enjoys a beautiful village location in a place called Boyden-Gate, situated 3 miles from Herne Bay. So it is important you have a reliable means of traveling to work and back again. The landlord is keen to find hands on kitchen staff with a passionate attitude and a genuine love for all things food related.

Experience is always welcome but we are open minded and are happy to consider applicants with any level of experience; just as long as you have a positive work ethic and the instincts of a natural team player!

To work alongside the head chef to manage daily kitchen activities, aiding with menu preparation, ensuring food quality and freshness with efficient monitoring ordering. Providing meal quality and consistency by following designated recipes.


To work alongside the Chefs and any other kitchen staff to manage daily kitchen activities, aiding with menu preparation, ensuring food quality and freshness with efficient monitoring ordering. Assisting the kitchen staff with any tasks that they may require.

KP Job Duties are similar to the chef but with more enthusiast on assisting the Chefs with their tasks

Chef Job Duties:

  • Assist the head chef with the daily management of all the kitchen tasks and take total accountability for the smooth running of the kitchen management in the absence of the head chef
  • To ensure all scheduling and rostering systems for the day-to-day running of the kitchen are followed and completed accurately and on time in conjunction with the head chef. This involves anything from stock takes, orders, rotations, kitchen procedures, duty rotas and any other general chef responsibilities.
  • Monitor and maintain consistent food standards and quality across all areas and during all stages of production and supply to ensure the HACCP procedure according to the company’s Food Safety policy and the correct use of the KRB including cleaning rota and closing down procedures. This will ensure quality control measures and hygiene systems are achieved at all times.
  • Provide guidance to junior kitchen staff members, including, but not limited, to line cooking, food preparation, and dish plating and pot washing
  • Ensure the efficient running of the head chefs food rotation system and make sure all food products are properly dated and organised for quality assurance
  • Be responsible for your ‘meson plus’ by keeping cooking stations stocked, especially before and during prime operation hours
  • Manages food and product ordering by keeping detailed records to minimise waste, plus works with existing systems to improve waste reduction and manage budgetary concerns
  • Supervises all food preparation and presentation to ensure quality and restaurant standards
  • Works with head chef to maintain kitchen organization, staff ability, and training opportunities
  • Verifies that food storage units all meet standards and are consistently well-managed
  • Assists head chef with menu creation when required.
  • Coordinates with restaurant management team on supply ordering, budget, and kitchen efficiency and staffing
  • To be flexible and willing to work weekends, evenings, bank holidays and occasional special events. Requests for holidays or for any important personal days off need to be made two weeks in advance
  • Agree to be a team player by offering to cover the occasional extra shift for planned and unexpected staff absences
  • Be willing to identify areas of self improvement and take on any available training opportunities to gain new qualifications and skills
  • Must have a reliable method for traveling to and from work due to the pubs location and poor access to public transport links
  • To be prepared for regular reviews and updates of your job description as you settle into the role and identify any opportunity to take on new responsibilities, with the guidance of the head chef

Chef Skills and Qualifications:
